Dad? Can we talk about something? Yeah, I know you’re watching Dogtown and Z-boys for, like, the ZILLIONTH time, but it’s kind of important.

So, um, I know you’re into us bonding and stuff. And I think it’s really cool that you’ve been into skateboarding for so long. My friends and I love looking at all your old decks and flipping through all those old Thrasher magazines you’ve got down in the basement. And I know how lucky I am that you support what I’m into. Not every father would encourage their kid to ride all the time like you do, let alone give them lessons. Heck, remember that Bravo Sports Tony Hawk HuckJam Skateboard & Helmet you bought me as my first board? Most kids would have to beg for a 9-ply, full maple, epoxy glue deck with ABEC 7 Bearings, custom painted “Encore Trucks,” and hand cast, poly urethane wheels like that.

It’s just… the thing is… I thought maybe I’d ask if it would be okay if we didn’t skate to the skate park together all the time. Would that be okay? No, no! I like that you’re there! You’re just, like, WAY better than I am and it’s a little embarrassing. I can’t keep ollieing in your shadow, you know what I’m saying?

Thanks for understanding, Dad. When I get back from the skate park, do you think we could order a pizza and watch The Search for Animal Chin together? Yeah, Dad, I think that’d be pretty rad, too.
