Talk about missing the mark. If only they had these World Tech Toys Phantom S107 RC Helicopters when I was a kid, fresh off a VCR viewing of Fire Birds, Tombstone Pictures’ blatant cash grab off the flash and sizzle of Apache Helicopters used in the Gulf War.
No, the first one. Yeah, there was one when I was a kid, too. Don’t get me started.
Anyway, it was basically Top Gun with helicopters. Except everywhere Top Gun zigged, Fire Birds plummeted in a flaming ball of wreckage out of the sky. But, to my 10-year-old brain, all that mattered were the sweet, sweet helicopter scenes. And if I had one of these RC Helicopters back then you can bet your life I’d be diving and swooping and avoiding Colombian drug lords (seriously, the bad guy for the helicopter movie was a drug lord) like a little Nicolas Cage before he wasted all his acting credibility.
But you kids today, I feel bad. What’s the last helicopter movie you had to even emulate? All you can do is take the LED lights and coaxial rotor and metal body for face value. It’s a shame.
Oh, wait. I guess you could pretend it’s a Transformer or something.
