We can learn a lot from children about peace, understanding and decapitation.

As Tim walked through the living room, he stepped on something that nearly sent him flailing. He looked down to see the head from one of Ella’s Best Friend Club Dolls. He surveyed the rest of the room and quickly spotted two headless doll bodies and another head strewn about an array of miniature articles of clothing and accessories.

He continued into the bathroom where Michelle was applying her mascara, eyes wide and with that unnecessary “O” expression. He said “Hey Hon … why does it look like the set of Saw XIV in there?”

She took a moment to respond, staring blankly without blinking while the mascara dried. Then she answered, “Ugh. Yeah, sorry. Dakody was over last night and ripped all the heads off Ella’s dolls. She was upset at first, but now she’s having fun with the mixing and matching. Sometimes she puts Yuko’s head on Gianna’s body or vice versa.”

“That’s creepy,” Tim said only half-joking. “Besides, isn’t it pretty obvious which head goes with which doll?”

“You want to explain ethnic differentiation to our 2-year-old, be my guest,” Michelle said with a smirk. “Besides, I think it’s really great she doesn’t care. If we could all mix and match heads, this world would be a lot better place.”

Tim shot her an incredulous look. “Oooh. Pretty sure that would be really scary. Terrifying, actually. Like a walking, living, never-ending nightmare of confusion and gore.”

“You’re twisted, you know that? And totally missing my point,” said Michelle.

“WHATEVER, SOLOMON! You’re the one who wants to hack people apart in the name of ‘fairness’ and ‘equality.’ But I’M the weirdo,” said Tim sarcastically as he turned and walked out.

Michelle just laughed and shook her head.
