Nothing has the potential to bring two people together quite like a pedal-free bike.

Lucy adjusted the seat and handlebars of her Trikke Balance Bike before climbing on and getting a feel for how it handled. Ella down the street had gotten a balance bike recently. And if there was anything Lucy could do to be more like Ella, she would do it for sure.

Ella was the coolest girl at daycare. Everyone loved her. She was a rebel and didn't take no for an answer. Lucy admired her for that. As Lucy maneuvered the strong, durable and lightweight bike around her driveway, she hoped that Ella would come speeding by on her balance bike and see her. If Ella did, they'd have something in common, and they'd end up best friends for sure.

After she had been riding for about an hour without any sign of Ella, Lucy decided that it was her dad's fault. If it hadn't taken him the WHOLE 10 minutes to assemble the bike, she would have gotten outside sooner. Ella had obviously come and gone already, and was probably at home eating something yummy like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and doing something cool like finger painting.

"Who am I kidding anyway," Lucy thought. "Even if I master the coordination and maneuverability it takes to ride a big girl bike, I'll never be able to make it down that hill like Ella."

Lucy dropped the bike on the lawn and went inside. Just as she had closed the door behind her, Ella rode by on her balance bike. Ella had noticed Lucy playing outside when she rode by the first time, and was sad that she wouldn't be making a new friend today.
