We’ve all been disappointed to re-encounter shows we loved as a kid and discover that they’re actually kinda crappy. The Electric Company seems like a prime candidate for that syndrome only because it seems so exciting in our memories. The funky older brother of Sesame Street was the hippest thing on kids’ TV from Watergate to Iran-Contra.
Didn’t it (blow your mind that time)? It must have for millions of us, because the name and concept had enough juice to be resurrected a couple of years ago in a contemporary, beatbox-heavy form. But does the original really hold up?
Well, browsing the YouTube clips from the 70s Electric Company makes us want to buy this for ourselves. If the eight discs available here maintain that level of awesome, it’ll be a legend with your kids, too. One thing you can be sure of: it won’t be anywhere near as bad as Spider-Man 3.
