Why is there a small Philips screwdriver in our family’s toothbrush holder? I’m glad you asked.

See, we thought it would be cute to get one of these Disney Musical Toothbrush Holders for the kids. It seemed like a great idea to play music for two minutes to keep kids brushing for the dentist-recommended time. We can save our breath encouraging the kids, since the toothbrush holder blurts out its own little pep talks while the music plays. And any activity where you can somehow involve Winnie the Pooh, Cars, or the Little Mermaid will instantly be more fun.

But then we got it home. And heard the music. It’s loud. Really loud. It’s really easy to accidentally turn on. And you can’t turn it off. The only way to cut the deafening tuneage before the two-minute mark is to remove the batteries. And you need a screwdriver to open the battery case.

So, after several consecutive mornings of accidental, ear-splitting Disney jams for the grownups, we took action. Now the kids can still bop along to the dental beat for the requisite two minutes. But our trusty screwdriver lets us adults kill the hateful noise. I don’t know if I’ll ever meet the guy who thought it would be a good idea to leave out the “OFF” switch. But if I do, you can be sure I’ll introduce him to my screwdriver, too.
