There are two distinct schools of art. One pushes boundaries. And the other is more traditional.

We live in a world today where any ol' goofy thing can be excused as "performance art" after the fact. Make a bad movie? Hey, it was ironic! Make a boring song? Take your clothes off and say you're expressing a "coming of age" moment! The line between good and bad begins to blur until it's impossible to say who has talent and who is just good at getting attention. But an artist who can make beauty with color and line at will has something that can't be faked.

Your child might be super good at creating controversy, but how is their skill? Here's a way to help them be fully rounded on the inside. Start them thinking about art, drawing and sketching and painting and whatnot, and let them discover how much work goes into the true beauty that pours out of the mind and soul.

Maybe then when they hear a multi-tracked hyper-produced product, they'll be more likely to see if it matters or not.
