It wasn't until they heard the noises from the communal kitchen that Alex and Donald decided to see what Ricky was doing. They didn't actually ever expect to see their friend holding a chocolate mold and a small shape cutter.

"What up?" Ricky nodded without looking. "What do you guys want?"

"Ricky?" said Donald. "What are you doing?"

"Makin' eggs," answered Ricky, like it explained everything. Donald didn't know what to say next, and looked to Alex for help.

"Yeah, but-" Alex faltered for a moment "-why?"

Ricky shrugged, turning to his marshmallows. "Why not, man? It's candy!"

Alex and Donald had nothing they could add.

"Besides," Ricky continued, checking the candy thermometer, "it was the best option."

"Out of what?"

"Out of all the labs! Hold that aluminum foil so I can wrap this lollypop."

Alex moved the sticker sheets and flattened the foil. Donald started to smirk.

"And by labs, you mean..."

"The labs, the mandatory labs! My adviser said I needed a three hour lab to get my language credit, so I figured-"

"-you'd make candy for three hours and then get the credit." Donald turned his head and tried not to laugh.

"Finally, you get it. Pass me the gummy candy mold so I can make this last batch. Soon as it cools, we got us some snacks, and I got myself another point on the degree track."
