The Hunter In Repose
"Dude, those your kids or something?" Donald asked sarcastically, pointing at the photos on the mini-fridge.
"Nieces." Alex tapped two, then the third. "And that's my nephew Jake."
"Cute kids, man." Donald played pencil drums on the bedframe as he talked. "You see 'em much?"
"Saw 'em just this weekend for my birthday."
"Hey, happy birthday!"
"Thanks, man! Jake and Ella bought me this." Alex pulled a Night Hunter Helicopter from under the desk.
"Oh ho ho HO! THAT is a GIFT! Did they get to play with it?"
"That's the thing, man! Jake didn't even touch it! He said 'Uncle Alex, it wouldn't be fair.' Lately he's really been big into the idea that everything has to be fair."
"He's been watching superhero movies."
Alex popped in the last battery and the Night Hunter Helicopter's LED lights turned on.
"Oh, that's sweet," said Donald.
"Glows in the dark, too."
"You got a GLOW IN THE DARK helicopter?" Donald jumped up and slapped the light switch off. "Aw, that's TIGHT!"
Alex laughed. "Yeah, man! I'm gonna buzz Ricky when he walks in that door next. He's never gonna expect that."
Donald laughed. "He's gonna slap that thing out of the air, man, he's gonna lose his mind."
"I'm too fast for him. Check this out." The helicopter zipped left and right, forward and back, and then hovered just over Donald's head. Donald grabbed for it but it was gone too fast.
"Told ya!" Alex said, landing the chopper on his desk. "I've been practicing. Ricky's gonna wish he stayed on that beach when I get done with him."
The suite door slammed. Donald and Alex stared at each other in the dark. As the doorknob turned, the Night Hunter Helicopter moved into position.
