Life's about finding the good and removing the bad. So is parenting.

Amanda sat on the floor, near the JJ Cole Crib Bedding Set, with her weight shifted towards the door. Michelle rolled her eyes.

"It's not a snake, Amanda. It's just a reversible bumper. It's not even the most important part of the bedding set."

Amanda didn't look convinced.

"I read that it was dangerous, Michelle." With a finger, Amanda reached out, poking the bumper. The bumper did not move. Amanda seemed convinced it was sleeping.

"Oh, for Heaven's sake, Amanda!" Michelle picked up the reversible bumper and tossed it into a stack of pillows on the other side of the room. "There! It's defused now! I robbed it of all its power! Now we can talk about the fitted sheet and the reversible comforter and the dust ruffle."

Amanda watched the bumper in the corner. "It just seems so… menacing… doesn't it?"

Michelle rolled her eyes. Amanda was such a babe in the woods sometimes.

"Amanda," Michelle said, "This JJ Cole Crib Bedding Set isn't the parent. You are. You're buying a perfectly safe sheet and comforter and dust ruffle that's going to make any standard crib look lovely. And guess what? If using that reversible comforter makes you nervous, as well it should… don't use it in the crib! Or hang it on the wall for art! Or keep it for yourself to lie on while you watch TV! That way your face doesn't get smashed into the floor."

"What's wrong with my floor?" Amanda asked in shock. "I keep my floor super clean!"

Michelle sighed. "I know you do, Amanda. Because you're a good mommy. And part of being a good mommy is taking control now and then. Don't act like this JJ Cole Crib Bedding Set is Godzilla or something. It's just fabric. Take the part you don't like, put it somewhere else, and the rest will do just fine."

Amanda nodded, but with a frown. "The world is a dangerous place, Michelle."

"I know, hon," Michelle answered. "That's why God made us Mommies so smart."
