Hide and Seek
It’s all fun and games until someone realizes it’s not a game.
That’s weird. Ella’s not in her room. I just saw her in there a couple minutes ago when I walked by to put the towels away. You know what, I bet she’s in Jake’s room. She loves hiding in his clothes hamper. I’ll just open the lid up and surprise her.
“Hmmm. I WONDER where ELLA could POSSIBLY be? Under Jake’s bed? No. Maybe behind his curtain? Nope. Let’s seeee. Could she be hiding … IN HIS CLOTHES HAMPER? AHA!”
Huh. She’s not there either.
“Alright, Peanut. Come on out. Mommy’s starting to get worried.”
Maybe she’s in my closet trying on my shoes. Man, I hope she didn’t get into my make-up again. It took a full week for the lipstick stain to wear off of her eyelids last time. No, not there either.
Could she have figured out how to unlatch the baby gate? She couldn’t possibly … OH NO. THE POOL! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DON’T LET HER BE IN THE POOL. WHY DIDN’T I WATCH HER BETTER? I JUST TURNED MY BACK FOR A MINUTE! I WILL NEVER FORGIVE MYSELF IF … OH THANK GOD. But then WHERE IS SHE?
“ELLA! ELLLLLLLLA! WHERE ARE YOU? PLEASE COME OUT, BABY! MOMMY DOESN’T WANT TO PLAY HIDE AND SEEK ANYMORE. ELLLLAAAA!”
“Tim, it’s me. No, everything’s not alright. I can’t find Ella anywhere! I’ve looked in Jake’s room and our room and behind the shower curtain and by the pool and I don’t know what to do! She was JUST playing inside her room in her … oh no. I’m SUCH a SPAZZ! Hold on a sec …
… Yep, everything’s fine. I found her. She fell asleep in her new Crayola Play Tent. YES I KNOW THERE ARE CLEAR SIDE PANELS. But she colored all over them with the dry-erase crayons and I couldn’t see that she was curled up inside the tube. Yep, I’m ok. Sorry to worry you. Love you too. Bye.”
