There is no way to fully comprehend the tremendous loss that the residents of Moore, Oklahoma experienced yesterday. My heart goes out to everyone affected by the deadly tornado.

Over the course of the last two days, I have seen a whole lot of "woulda, coulda, shouldas" from people, angry and confused, trying to make sense of the terrible disaster for which there really is no rhyme or reason.

There are some things so big and so devastating, you can simply never fully prepared for them. When they happen, the best you can do is unite as a community and help each other pick up the pieces.

Still, it's always a good idea to have a plan for emergencies, and to discuss it with your entire family. Does your family have an action plan in case of fire, earthquake, tornadoes, hurricanes or other emergencies?

FEMA and Ready.gov offer good information for how to build a family emergency plan. Learn about what you can do before, during and after different emergencies to help ensure your family stays safe.
