I think I bought my son (5) the most dangerous board possible (No griptape, smooth fiberglass top and bottom, shortboard, oversize wheels, nice bearings). I like this concept much better. Plus, just this morning he asked about getting a new board. I'll run it by him tomorrow thanks again woot!

Sigh.
I wish they made something like this for big kids (or if the handle was adjustable to be good for someone like 5ft 7 and the board could hold something more like 125lb.)
So jealous of little kids right now.

I had one of these--until some jerk in a life-preserver broke the handles from the base and rode off with the rest.

So what you're all saying is this would be the perfect gift for my 5 year old?!!

If you want your kid to learn how to actually skateboard, don't buy this. I watched my 5 year old nephew never learn how to properly skateboard with this thing, mostly because he was relying too much on the handle.I tried teaching him with an actual skateboard but he was too used to a handle. You may as well just get a scooter, something like a Razor. Combining the two just makes your poor kid bad at both. Heed my words for the sake of your child's coolness!!

Don't get the Razor... those are deadly for children. They go beyond the limits they should go with them due to overconfidence provided by the handle. A skateboard is a lot safer way to start out.
That said, I'm considering getting this, as my son has been trying to snag my skateboards. I don't see any reason the handle couldn't be left off... am I wrong? Errr... nevermind, it sure can be left off! Yay! Looks like a good deal for a spidey skateboard with handle that may end up being useful for another purpose...

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!

For whatever reason, I had missed that they had scooters on sports woot. My 13 year old has been asking for a new one so he can share his old one with his little brother.

This is AWESOME!!!!

EDIT: And it appears that I got one of the last black labels!! *WHEW* THANKS AGAIN!

We bought one of these for my 5 year old. It seemed like the perfect combination - a scooter for now and a skateboard for when he's ready. But alas, it is useless. Without being able to turn the handle (which you can't), you can't turn the scooter. We keep it in our garage but every kid that tries to use it quickly realizes it's useless and frustrating (unless you only plan on going straight). The handle is screwed down and doesn't pivot, not even a smidge. I do not recommend this at all

These were hot in the mid-80s and I always wanted one. Unfortunately I'm not in the size specs.

I used to have one back then, they were a lot of fun and I was wondering when someone would bring them back.

To the people who say you cannot turn with them, well the way you turn is the same as a segway you want to go right you push the handle to the right.

The tightness of the center nut in the truck bushings dictate the rate of turn but bewarned the looser the center nut the more unstable a skateboard is at speed. I cant remember if the handle makes them more stable at speed or not as I was only about 8 then. It did not take long for the gimmick to wear off and for all of us kids to take the handle off.

Apply weight to side if you need to turn

What's the likelihood a 26-year-old grad student can ride one of these if they're 5'3'' and only a little bit above the weight limit? Also, what's the likelihood she would be laughed at?

They're not the same thing, but any of you adults interested in a serious kick-scooter might check out Sidewalker's scooters.
