Two sets of this are stashed in my closet for Christmas for my nieces that are teachers. I always get them something for the classroom in addition to their personal gifts.

Well it won popular science" best of toy fair" in 2011 http://www.thinkgeek.com/geek-kids/7-13-years/e7f3/?cpg=ogpla&source=google_pla&gclid=CPbG9_-nibECFeEDQAodZBjjCQ....maybe that got mentioned the last time it was offered though. Seems like a good toy though. I am in for 1 for my 5 yr old for Xmas. I think he'll love it!

I played Tetris (SNES) constantly while pregnant with son. I think that's why he's addicted to video games.

In for 2. One for home and one for a gift. Be sure to keep this video handy for whenever you're playing it. 10. hours. of. Tetris. Music!

It's been playing for 10 minutes so far. I'm fairly certain I could go the whole 10 hours and not get sick of it.

Is the scoring complicated? With the specs, it sounds like I would spend more time figuring out the score at the end than I would playing the game. Who has played this?

Or, maybe we play it like ConnectFour - link your pieces and instant win!

I bought this on a previous offering. I'd buy it again at twice this price. We took it on a long car trip to Belgium and it kept my kid occupied during a long, rainy weekend where we spent a lot of time cooped up in the hotel. Scoring is easy and my 13 year old had no problem keeping track of who was winning and losing. He also had no problem letting everyone else know.

I bought this last time and just bought three more. I LOVE it. The best way I describe it to newbies at my game nights is "Tetris Link is what happens when Tetris and Connect 4 get together and have a baby!" It is amazingly fun and scoring is easy, with markers on tracks along the sides for each color to keep track of their score at the end of each move. I've had kids as young as 5 loving it and have gotten plenty of adults addicted.

Long story short, I cannot recommend this game highly enough, and at this price, grab backups for great gifts for all ages!

My only complaint is that both the regular version and the travel version come in the same big box for storage. I would prefer one box for the regular game and to keep the travel one self-contained. Still, that's about as minor as a complaint can get, and I still bought three more to store and have on hand for gifts for friends.

I too, was going to whine about my previous purchase for $12.99. However, I hopped over to sellout and scored a JVC video camera (that I almost pulled the trigger on before) for $20 less than a previous woot. So I win in the long run ;)

The only reason I can think of to own travel Tetris Link rather than a Gameboy is that if your travel includes a 3-hour tour that goes wrong, you can play travel Tetris Link until you're rescued.

Tetris Link was also a 2012 Mensa Select winner! $10 is a great price for it, and when you throw in the travel version for free, you're that much closer to your Christmas list being filled!

Is anybody else running into a lot of trouble buying this? Server breaking every time.

edit: And of course the second I complain about it, it works. Kindly disregard.

Scoring is pretty easy. There's score counters on the side of the game, so you add points as you go.

Basically, as you lay down your color of pieces on your turn, every piece that touches another is 1 point. The caveat is that you must have at least 3 touching in a chain to start scoring. So if you get 5 all touching together, your first drop is worth 0, second is again 0, third earns you +3 points, fourth gets another +1, fifth is another +1, etc. Goes until you're blocked and must start a new chain.

Also, if you drop a piece that leaves a void, that's -1 or -2 points depending on how many squares you left unfilled.

So in all, pretty easy. And fun.

I've posted my thoughts on this game in the past, so I'll just give a summary.

It's fun, it's easy, and other people pick it up quickly. It's like "connect 4" with colors and tetris pieces, and up to 4 can play at once.

The travel game is ingeniously designed, the way it all fits together. It's the same as the full game, just scaled down and only for 2 players instead of 4.

My family tried it out, and we really liked it. Scoring is easy, and it's very satisfying to mess other people's chains up by blocking them... only to have them counter-attack and block you on their next turn.

Lovely game, and a great price. Get 3 sets for $35, and you get 3 games and 3 stocking stuffers to hand out come xmas.

I bought 1 last time around and we liked it so much that I'm buying more for our gift closet. In for 3.

Oh, and I solved the storage problem (both versions of the game are packaged into one box) by putting them into separate zip-top storage bags. The small pieces go into sandwich-sized bags and the entire game goes into either a 1-gallon storage bag or the next-size-larger 2.5-gallon bags. That's how we store almost all of our board games.

The default rules are close to being good, but if you would like a more interesting play experience, I recommend the following changes:

Instead of 3 points for connecting 3 pieces, award 4 points for connecting 3 pieces, and then +1 for each additional connection (as the rules normally state)

Instead of -1 point for each gap created, for every 4 gaps created, -1 point rounded up (so, 1 to 4 gaps = -1 point, 5 to 8 gaps = -2 points, etc).

These changes make for far more interesting choices as how to play. Otherwise, you rely far too much on the luck of the role and are just seeing who can get lucky enough to create the longest chain of pieces without making a gap.

With these rule changes, it's definitely worth getting in my opinion.

This was worth it at the last sale, even more so now. It's fun, easy to play, but still has enough strategy to be interesting.

Ahh Tetris... I remember going to the 1990 Nintendo World Championships in Houston and coming up against Thor Aackerlund who went on to win the entire Nintendo World Championships. He was like a computer playing the game, the second the piece was on the screen he would put it in place. Just when the pieces reached the top and you would think there is no way out he would clear the screen in another 5 moves, it was pretty crazy how good he was.

This looks fun enough but the kids I would give it to would likely loose all the pieces after a game or two.

Always be wary of playing anyone named Thor,....

Tired of people defending woot. This was more expensive during a recent wootoff. This should NEVER be the case. Wootoffs should always reflect the lowest possible price woot is willing to offer. I'm getting sick of this site.

This site is sad now.
