For the price, you could do worse. I see the Johnson and Johnson sets go for about this price at the store with a rubber duckie instead of a cutisie hippo scrubbing puppet.

So who can vouch for the product itself? is it worth the shipping for the price of the discount?

Todays woot reminds me of the Music Monday @ Woot.com Turntable room. It always says "Don't think of purple hippos"

Not that this will add much, but I was looking at the products page with individual links while you were looking at that:

Mmmm... parabens, urea, and weird artificial fragrances... yum yum!

EWG gives 6's and 7's for all their lotions and body washes. Johnson's got 4's across the board. If you're willing to use Johnson's, you're probably fine with Baby Magic. Personally, I'm not willing to use either on my kids.

I use both or should I say my baby does. I prefer Baby Magic though but I have Johnson's to use up. I feel that Baby Magic has more natural/better for skin ingredients. Words like chamomile, vitamin E... allude to that anyway. I do like the night time much better. Doesn't stink like Johnson's. And the regular doesn't smell too different from Johnson's either. Cost wise though it is the same price as in the store. Not much of a savings there.

This is the best smelling baby shampoo/lotion in the universe! If you know what a new baby smells like freshly hatched, that is what this smells like.
It's like new puppy breath, new car smell, pine trees, chocolate chip cookies baking...can't beat it!

I use California baby - you can eat that stuff (not that it would taste good) and it's fine. It's a little pricey, but despite regular baths, we don't seem to go through bath stuff super fast, so I don't mind the price. I also use collodial oatmeal - which in my cheapo house means momma found a coffee grinder at a yard sale & feeds in quaker oats - it works though - it cleanses & softens skin & it's CHEAP...as in almost free.

"The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics urges parents to avoid products containing ingredients that may be contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, including sodium myreth sulfate, PEG compounds and chemicals that include the clauses “xynol,” “ceteareth” and “oleth.” Parents should also avoid products that contain formaldehye-releasing preservatives, including quaternium-15, DMDM hydantoin, imidazolidinyl urea and diazolidinyl urea."

They assign products a score on their toxicity level and Baby Magic is about a 6 or a 7 with 10 being the most toxic. They recommend products to have scores between 0-2.

On a side note: Johnson & Johnson has "graciously" decided to slowly phase out their formaldehye ingredients in their products that are being sold in the United States. But they already phased them out of other countries a while ago due to those countries having laws banning the ingredients.

I also use California Baby, as this and Johnson's made my son's eczema flare like crazy. I also ADORE the Peter Rabbit line from Whole Foods. It's quite cheap, smells great, and NO rashes! Burt's Bees also does pretty well for Bubble Bath.

Burt's Bees!

My mother used this kind of stuff on me because she didn't know any better.

Just because "mom did it that way", isn't good enough reasoning for me. Especially when there's a better way (Burt's Bees: less chemicals, more clean).

After all, progress is good.

I have heard the same argument about all sorts of stuff... "well, I survived my childhood just fine without (safety item: car seats, lead free paint, etc)". Well, news flash: some people didn't survive!

Shampoo with toxins and fragrances won't kill your child, but it doesn't mean they're good for the kid either.

Yep, new baby on the way and there's no way I'd use this or Johnson's given what's come out about their ingredients. I'm still pretty irked that I did use it with my older child, not knowing that they (Johnson's) were giving a safer product to most of the rest of the world's babies. We'll use Burt's or CA Baby this time around.

I wouldn't use this product. I've tried using Johnson's because we got it as a gift. I got a contact allergy rash on my hands within the first week. Switched to Burt's Bee's, no change in my rash.

Our baby had eczema so we used Aveeno Soothing Relief Baby Wash for quite a while - at least I wasn't allergic to it. It turned our washcloths black and now they are all dingy. There was a nasty film on all of her toys if I didn't bleach them once a week. I thought that was just how baby toys got in the bathtub. We finally switched because she has some food allergies to oat/wheat/barley and we weren't sure if it was aggravating her eczema.

The aquaphor/eucerin baby wash and a new diet totally cleared up her eczema that I thought the Aveeno was helping! However, there was still a nasty film on all of her toys.

Once we switched to California Baby products, the nasty film on her toys hasn't occurred! I don't know what is in those other baby products but I would never use them or recommend them. We are going to stick with California Baby from now on and I will give a bottle of the shampoo for future baby shower presents.

For those of you who love California Baby, I looked on Amazon and saw they have a bug repellent. I am from CA but now live in West Virginia and we have bugs like you would not believe. Is the bug repellent good? I was going to make my own, but for the price, the CA baby one may be worth it if it works well.

you're trying to sell baby products without an ingredients list? won't even entertain the idea of a purchase. and if the ingredients are listed somewhere, this god-awful redesign has hidden them quite well.

that's ok though, i'm quite happy with california baby.

I think Baby Magic stuff smells very strongly - aside from the chemical content etc. I agree with people also about rash stuff - Aveeno Soothing care doesn't clear up my kid's non-eczema rash, only Aquaphor does. I use the fragrance free Johnson's most of the time. Apparently (based on other comments) I don't love my kid that much.

the home you live in can kill your kids with things like VOC's in your paint or chemicals on your cheap new laminate floors. your swifter has chemicals that kill babys and dogs. the lead dust and asbestos in your walls and ceilings. the advantage11 on your dogs and cats is the fabulousing best for the little tykes. so dont trip on lotion trip on your home.

ha

The write-up is funny but if I used that stuff bare-handed on my baby I would get blisters all over my hands... So I kind of feel badly for the fictional parents in the story. lol
I'll use this stuff on my kid if someone gives it to me (with gloves on), but considering that my kids are related to me I'm not going to expose them to it regularly, just to be safe.

Well, it's also part of a larger mission in making sure more information is available with the product the outset. But yes, that is a great place to start!

It is true that you would have to live in a bubble in order to avoid the long list of chemicals that we are exposed to on a daily basis. Since that is not possible, you do the best that you can. Babies are not having these things applied to their skin or ingesting them(hopefully).

No one is saying if you use these products that you are a bad parent. I used Johnson's etc. at first until I switched and discovered my baby's eczema was gone. I just wish someone would have informed me about other options and that they are not all of the same and then I can make my own decision.

Babies have thinner skin and a higher fat content under their skin which makes what we apply to their skin easily absorbed.

Baby Magic took out parabens, urea, and quaternium-15 a couple of years ago so the products in this basket do not contain these ingredients.

EWG has not updated the website for Baby Magic since it still listed the ingredients that were taken out.

Ok guys, let's get the facts straight. Baby Magic products do not contain parabens, urea, Quartenium-15, or formaldehyde-donors. The formula changed a couple of years ago so the information on EWG is not updated either.

Below are the ingredient lists that are on current Baby Magic products.

Gentle Lotion:
Water, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Sorbitol, Cetyl Alcohol, PEG-100 Stearate, Dimethicone, Allantoin, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Fragrance, Benzalkonium Chloride, Tocopheryl Acetate, Panthenol, Retinyl Palmitate, Mineral Oil, Lanolin Alcohol, Lanolin, Glycereth-2 Cocoate, Benzoic Acid

Hair & Body Wash:
Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Sodium Lauroamphoacetate, Glycerin, Polysorbate 20, Polysorbate 80, PEG-150 Distearate, Sorbitol, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice, Polyquarternium-10, Panthenol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retinyl Palmitate, Citric Acid, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, Glycereth-2 Cocoate, Benzoic Acid

Calming Baby Bath has all of the ingredients above as well as Lavender and Chamomile extracts.

Concerning the study to test baby products that was done in 2009:

"Some of the biggest names on the market, including Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo and Baby Magic baby lotion, tested positive for 1,4-dioxane, or formaldehyde, or both, the nonprofit Campaign for Safe Cosmetics reported," wrote Lyndsey Layton in the Washington Post.

"The chemicals, both characterized as probable carcinogens by the Environmental Protection Agency, are not added intentionally to the products and do not appear on ingredient labels. Instead, they appear to be byproducts of the manufacturing process.

Formaldehyde is created when other chemicals in the product begin to break down over time, while 1,4-dioxane is formed when foaming agents are combined with ethylene oxide or similar petrochemicals."

So, hopefully they have reformulated their products since 2009 in order to become safer.

But if you are going by government standards, the FDA has not established a safe limit for 1,4 dioxane in shampoo products and maintains that trace amounts of that substance are not harmful.

So it is up to you the consumer to take all of this knowledge and make your choice.

Baby Magic's been around for ages and they actually talk to their customers, which I think is amazing. Also if you look on their website, it clearly states that they don't have formaldehyde donors. +1 for Baby Magic.

I use California Baby since it's easily found at Target. Earth Mama Angel Baby also makes fabulous products. I'm also a big fan of the Everyday Shea bodywash by Alaffia (runs about $10 for a 32oz bottle at Whole Paycheck).

Thanks for the updated ingredient list! That is much improved over the previous formula. I still avoid products with fragrances so wouldn't use this set, but I'm glad the people that snagged it will have less-toxic products.
