Here it was the first time. The inventor stopped by to answer questions, talk about new upgrades to the toy. and most importantly tell you he's cool with you hacking the Smart-e-bear
I got a Majored in Youtube Reviews at YTU I might as well put the degree to good use. $39.95 + shipping at amazon I skimmed over the reviews, and this is what people had to say. For the most part, your kid is going to love this toy, especially for the great low woot price. If you learn how to program your own songs you can save yourself a lot of money. people complained how much it cost to add songs to the bear, saying they were nickle and dime'd. Learn how to add songs yourself and you should be okay. People said the toy isn't worth the 80 dollar MSRP, but this isn't really a problem as it's 29.99 today. One customer said: "This toy does not speak spanish! Yes if it put it in Spanish mode it will say a few words here and there, but then it mostly just switches back and forth between English and Spanish." So by no means will your child become fluent in a second language with this toy, probably learn a few words here and there, similar to what you'd get from Dora the explorer. If you have any problems with your smart-e-bear, I suggest Checking the intellitoys website. I really like Mike the first time he stopped by. He seemed like a man who put a lot of love into this toy and is very proud of it. He definitely wants you to be happy with your purchase and if you have any problems shoot them an email. Mike and his team seem eager to help. Hopefully he'll come back in the morning/afternoon and answer any questions you may have for him.
I want to buy one for my nephew who turns one year old this month, but the recommended age for this toy is 2+, and based on the games he plays, that sounds accurate. Guess I'll just hope this shows up on kids.woot again about a year from now.
I want to buy one of these for 3 different Lil ones in my family! How can I ship one to each of these 3 via woot?
I got one last time it was wooted for my granddaughter's second birthday. (paid more grumble, grumble). I had to hold onto it for a while as her birthday was just last Sunday. She liked it when she opened it, but there were loads of other gifts to distract her from it. Next time it's wooted I'll have more information to offer.

Hi Blainkyle, this is Mike from Intellitoys. Just as an FYI we have safety tested for all ages, and we do have a "shuffle mode" that allows smart-e to play songs with no interaction from your child and then shut itself off, so he can definitely be enjoyed by a 1-year-old (or younger) AND as your child gets older you can add back the games and interactive content so smart-e grows up with your child. I hope that's helpful.

Hi CowboyDann, this is Mike from Intellitoys. Thanks for the informative post! I just wanted to add a clarification on the toy's Spanish capabilities. If you switch from English to Spanish, the entire user interface (e.g. "To listen to...squeeze my hand...") changes to Spanish. What it does NOT do is translate songs or stories that were recorded in English into Spanish, because those are recordings from 3rd party artists (the same way changing your DVD player language from English to Spanish would change all the menus and text on your DVD player to Spanish, but wouldn't translate the movie you are watching). We do offer Spanish versions of most of our interactive content (e.g. Simon Says, the Three Little Pigs), but you have to switch out the English version for the Spanish version. It sounds like the user you quoted was either expecting the songs to change language (which we cannot do) or the games to change language (which can be done, but requires the user to do it). I hope that is helpful. I will be checking the forums from time to time today if I can clarify or answer any questions. -Mike
I am already buying Christmas and first birthday present for my 7 month old daughter (because they fall within a few months of one another). I was debating this... but after seeing the answers from Mike on the previous post I am def in. Not only did his answers tackle some of the questions I have, but the fact that he even stopped by had a big impression on me. So many companies make disposable (yet expensive) toys now-a-days and..and even some flat out dangerous one's (heh hum- lead paint anyone?) To see someone so proud of his company/invention and so helpful is a breath of fresh air. Mike, ya sold me!! Thanks for being so helpful! Might even get more than one, for gifts!! (knowing that I will be giving a good gift is relaxing!)
We got this bear during the last woot sale and my almost 1 yr old loved it. Sadly, every now and again the on/off button (in the ear) gets stuck and he just keeps saying "hi" over and over again. creepy.

Hi mtuepker, this is Mike from Intellitoys. In almost 100% of the cases I've seen, if the toy is repeating "hi" over and over, it means the batteries are on the brink of dying and it is stuck in a reboot loop. If that happens, please try a new set of batteries and let me know if that fixes the issue. If it doesn't, please email me at info@intellitoys.com to arrange a support call and we'll get it straightened out. Thanks, Mike
Darn.... really wished it was a spy-bear. Could have really used a nanny-cam.
My mother got one of these 3 years (I think...) ago from Amazon for my then 2 year old daughter's birthday. My daughter did love the toy, but what really impressed me was the company. My mother isn't the most tech-savvy person, but she's not half bad for a 60 year old lady. Anyways, she couldn't get content loaded on the bear and was having all sorts of trouble. She called the company for tech support and one of the first things they said to her was: "You don't worry, we'll get it working before your granddaughter's birthday even if we have to overnight you a new one." This type of service is hard to come by now days! Seeing Mike here in the forums only confirms my belief that this is a wonderful company to purchase from.
