No matter how often I see it, I still gotta wonder how they got the permits for this... A phone behind/next to the burners? That's a scalding or a fire waiting to happen! Who approved this building?

Would my nearly two year old niece be years away from enjoying this?

Here it is on Amazon for $102.76

I've been searching Craigslist for two months for one of these (with apps that constantly search new listings), and I have yet to find anything of this quality at this price. Awesome deal! These things are great fun for kids and parents of kids.

No, she will enjoy it now. My mother bought one similar for my daughter and she just turned 2. She loves it and doesn't stop playing with it.

Amazon has 101 pieces of food for 31 dollars

It might not sound like a great deal when it's literally more than half the kitchen, but i saw a 20 piece set going for about 10. It's pretty good.

Two is PERFECT. My parents got my son a kitchen for his second birthday and I have many fond memories of him cooking me food while I made dinner.

1. How tip over proof is this? Some of the kitchens I've seen on Woot and elsewhere were pronte to tipping over according to the research I did.

2. Is this better/comparable/lesser quality thant the KidKraft kitchens woot and other vendors have offered?

3. How sturdy/durable is this?

4. Granddad wants to know if this is too juvenile for his 5 year old granddaughter???

It's okay - but for $79.00 you can get the kitchen and 101 pieces of food with free site-to-store shipping at WalMart, which is just $14.00 more than this price when you include the $5 shipping. We don't need a kitchen (or food) anyway - as I got one for free from a neighbor when they moved, but I just like to check it out a bit to decide if I should give anyone IRL a head's up when there is a good deal on here...and I found that WalMart deal pretty comparable & if 101 pieces costs you $31 on amazon, then you are better off getting it from WalMart.

Our kids had an older version of this. Lots of play time and whenever we sat down to watch TV they would make dinner. The boiling water pot and frying pan are really neat for kids. They wont burn themselves either.

We sold ours two weeks ago at a garage sale for $10, but we did pay close to the retail listed price.

Make sure you have some play food otherwise they will be boiling and frying air or worse yet water that will end up on your living room/playroom floor.

Are the kids included?

Any time an iPhone/iPod accessory is sold it says that we cannot have your iPhone, so do we get your kids if we purchase this? I saw nothing to indicate that they were not included.

:-D

I've had my eye on this for my granddaughter for Christmas but darned if the other grandma didn't get one for her already. It wasn't nearly as nice and I bet she paid more money. So there!

Has anyone put one of these things together? It took me two hours on Christmas morning to put a kitchen very similar to this together. My kids have enjoyed it a lot, but, man...it was worse than putting a bike together.

We have an older version of this. (my kids are 8 now, and got it when they were two) It is wonderful for two thru four year olds. They hold up well - ours is now on it's third set of toddlers. They are a pain to put together. It isn't tools, it took raw physical power to make it fit. Well worth the money.

Here's my take on your questions:
1. Anything for kids is prone to tip over. This is pretty sturdy, though.
2. I can't compare to other brands very much, but it seems fairly solid for a bunch of plastic.
3. They have this same kitchen in a hospital playroom where my son goes for cancer treatment. It seems pretty durable given how many kids must be messing with it all the time.
4. 5 years old is definitely not too old for this - especially for girls. Of course, each kid has very different tastes, so YMMV. My 2 year old son and 8 year old daughter love playing with our kitchen. 8 years old is probably too old for it, but she enjoys playing with her brother.

Nope! Two is a great age! This is the age where she will begin pretend play. She will want to do what the grown ups are doing and this is a great way to give her a chance to "help" in the kitchen without having her right under your feet when cooking.

We bought one from woot in March. It's a good deal for an inexpensive kitchen. The basic pieces are made to be used with several different trim levels, and this appears to be the bottom level. The fit isn't fabulous but it's good enough for a 2yo's level of scrutiny. There are a few things that are peculiar, such as that one place has a hole that you screw a plastic block into and then put a sticker over; and the faucet doesn't really go in where it's supposed to; and the cell phone will not stay in the cell phone holder; but again, our 2yo doesn't care. The sizzling and bubbling pots are a big hit with our son & his friends. They also love opening and closing the doors, and hiding things in there (if you're missing a sippy of milk or a lovey, check the microwave!) If we had paid retail for it, we would send it back, but since we got such a great deal on woot, we're happy with it and it gets some of our precious playroom real estate.

1. We have a Step2 Kitchen (it is a larger version of this one) and it is VERY durable. To be honest, I've never seen anything Step2 has put out that wasn't durable. Both my kids (ages 3 and 5) have climbed onto the teeny countertop of the one we have and it didn't tip over. I can't imagine a kid tipping the small one over either, especially if you keep it against a wall.

2. Kidcraft products are made of wood. I've heard many stories of those breaking, tipping over or screws coming loose...or the whole unit becoming "wobbly" over years of use. I can't see that happening with the sturdy plastic that Step2 uses. We bought our kitchen on Craigs List, so it was already a few years old (although it looked brand new) and now my kids have played with it for 2 years now and it hasn't changed.

3. Already answered above.

4. If the granddaughter likes to pretend to cook, bake and put on "pretend" dinners, picnics and parties...then I'd say go for it. I'm pretty sure if she doesn't show interest within a few months, you could turn around and resell it to someone else at this price. Or even take a $10 loss on it if need be. But I'm fairly certain you'll get at least $10 worth of play out of it. :-)

These things are built to last. I bought one of these when my oldest (now almost 11) was 2 or 3. It's been through 3 kids and still sits in the playroom. we can't get rid of it yet because the youngest (age 7) still uses it in her pretend play on a somewhat regular basis. It still looks pretty much the exact same as the day we put it together. And while I, personally, can't wait to have that corner back, the kids LOVED it to pieces. When we're finally done with it, It'll have many years with another family and probably another and another.

So we bought it the day after Christmas from Wally World (exact same features) for $29.99, on sale from $79.00. They were looking to get out of the remainder of their stock, and we couldn't find this BASIC model on sites to compare it to.

Only came with 2 pots, only 1 burner makes sound, all other areas require imagination. We gave it to our son then, because it is a bit small. (The top hits me at mid-chest, and I'm 5'3") Our small house already has a ton of Woots, and so is over crowded, so the size works really well for us. I can move it myself, vs having to wait for someone else to do it for me. Quality isn't 100%, but I can't complain for the price. I believe most Step 2 items are made in the USA.

All that said, our son is now 22 months, and still manages to play with it every day. I gave him plastic dishes from our kitchen that I was going to recycle anyway, and he rocks it out.

I like the price I paid better, but this is not a bad deal, and if size matters, even better.

We have had one of these for years in my house, we got it when my 8 year old daughter was two, and my 4 year old son has been using it since he's been standing.
Interesting note: When the batteries were going in the burner (about 4 years after we got it), the sizzle/boil sounds started going off randomly, leaving us to think the kids were using it at 3 o'clock one morning.

Got the step 2 kitchen at Walmart, only one minor difference in ours, and got it on the after Christmas sale and beat the woot price, but the baby likes it, plays daily with it.
