great for educational purposes, as a toy- not so much...small, sharp parts could be dangerous for the little ones. For safety reasons, use for ages 14 and older please.

For the model-impaired among us, (well... me,) can somebody give me a hint as to what those scales come to in inches? Are we talking 6" long planes? 4"? Smaller?

Found a couple of them distributed through Silvergate.

On those pages it says they're 1:100 scale.

Near as I can figure, 4-6 inches. A 1:72 scale is about 11 inches.
I got a set for my boy who is aiming for Air Force Academy next year and would love the chance to fly the F-22. Awww to be young with dreams.....

I did a search and these sell for about $10 a plane elsewhere. They should be about 4-5" long.

One example: A F117-A Nighthawk is 65' 11" long. So converting that to inches gives us 791". At the stated 1:144 scale, dividing the 791/144 gives you 5.49".

Obviously these will all vary slightly, but assume 5 to 6 inches on average.

The WWII planes are 1/100 scale, so the ~10m P-51 Mustang model is ~10cm, or ~4".

The modern planes are 1/144 scale, so the ~19m F-22 Raptor model is ~13cm, or ~5".

While trying to figure this out for myself, I noticed that the description monologue correctly attributes the scales to each pack.

However, the detailed descriptions toward the bottom of the page has the scales reversed. If the modern aces were 1/100, they would be quite large at ~8".

Is it just me, or is there confusion in the description about which set is at 1:100 and which is at 1:144? The narrative suggests the old ones are 1:100, and the new at 1:144, but the specs section has it reversed. What's correct?

For any WWII buff, especially a 13 year old, these are pretty cool. I wish I had them back in the day. In for both sets. Can you say "The Final Countdown?"

Because kids love toys you look at and don't touch! In for none- woo hoo!

Pretty much everything causes cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm in California's eyes.

I have a wheelbarrow with the same warning sticker. It also has a sticker advising me not to eat it... Friendly advice, I guess...

They really needed to put a Corsair in the WWII set so you could play Black Sheep Squadron (or "Baa Baa Black Sheep" as it was named originally) with the Zero.

Picked up a set of each for my husband. He's a WWII history buff as well as a commercial air line pilot. I figure he can put them away and pull them out years from now when our son is older.

Obviously, common sense rules here...not for the wee ones.

Sorry it's a little late in the day to ad this tidbit. These models come from Japan originally. They come pre-painted but are still on the sprue, like a regular model kit. You will need a pair of nippers or an X-acto knife to cut them off and trim off any excess plastic left from the sprue. There are only a handful of pieces and they go together very well.

Plastic glue will work nicely but be warned that it can also ruin the paint job if you are sloppy. Super glue will work as well. However, again use caution when gluing the canopy in place. Super glue will frost the clear plastic if too much is used.

These are great models and have an amazing level of detail for their size. I used to own several of the WWII models to use for war gaming. I was paying $10+ a piece for them then. This is an amazing deal.
