What’s In A Name?

The kid asked me what Road Rage was. Was I supposed to lie to him or something?

I simply told Kenny that sometimes when grownups drive they get a little angry over the way other people drive. They yell or they might tailgate or try to cut off the person that offended them. You know, stuff like that. That’s all I said. Okay, I may have mentioned a few hand gestures that are sometimes exchanged during that sort of thing, but I made sure to tell him that it wasn’t acceptable for him to use any of them. There’s a chance I added “until you’re older” to that last part, too, but I think I played the responsible parent role pretty well, if you ask me.

Speaking of which, why are you asking me about this anyway? Oh.

Well, you can't completely blame me for that. I mean, you bought him something called a “Road Rager” Pulse Scooter, after all. It might be compact, lightweight, and fun, but the name does sort of invoke certain emotions, don’t you think? You’d think their marketing department would think about these things, but I guess meeting ASTM scooter test protocols is more important, I don’t know. Besides, when you think about it, if Old Man Henderson hadn’t been driving his riding mower on the sidewalk, Kenny wouldn’t have had to hit the steel foot-brake rear fender so hard that it broke off and then he wouldn’t have gotten so upset.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t pay for the damages to the Henderson’s living room window. I’m just doing my best to dodge any responsibility for our son’s behavior. Geez, you don’t watch a lot of sit-coms, do you? He did what? Okay, but which finger was it? Oh. Well, yeah, that’s my fault, then.
