I'm all for sparking a child's interest in art. This set is perfect because you get a lot of bang for your buck, and you will give your child a lot of tools to play around with. If art isn't for your child, well then it's also nice because you didn't spend that much on it.

You better buy these fast if you want them, they always seem to sell out before lunch time (sometimes a little bit after) But I don't think I've ever seen these stay on woot for an entire day

Only the best for my walls, doors and floors. My kids love it. I do not share these same feelings.

It's the cheaper stuff...

Again and again and again those in the know have explained that these kits are appreciated by young kids but are not for serious artists. The crayons are waxy and the markers dry up quickly.

Make sure you check the reviews at Amazon before you buy this. Lots of "not worth the money" feedback.

yes but most young kids aren't given oil pastels...so I thought it might be better quality. but looking at the pictures answered my questions for me--it's all Art 101 stuff, mediocre is being kind

As a parent, I value my sleep more than knowing what the next woot is as soon as it's posted. So maybe that's where they all are?

OK, here's a comment from a somewhat satisfied user. My kids do enjoy using this set, but like all art supplies the popular colors run out fast.
The box set is HEAVY. I wouldn't let my 8 year-old (granted, not a burly child) try to get this set up herself. Not great construction -- pressed board, sticky drawers. Try carrying by the handle and the side of the box it is attached to bows out ominously.
Is it a lot of stuff for $30? Yeah, I guess. but the quality of the paints and pastels isn't that great, the brushes are for carp, and if you have any real interest in getting art supplies for your kid, you can probably have a lot of fun at an art store shopping with your kid and get out for not much more.
Also, talk to the elementary school art teacher about the best place to get supplies (or if your district has cut Elementary school specialists, go to the high school).

if you have bigger kids so yourself and them a favour and get some decent quality brushes and colors - they'll have way more fun with good quality supplies ...

And if you have little ones you want the washable markers and colors - saves the walls and carpets, shirts and whatnot

for $30ish you can buy a bunch of art supply: crayons, markers, glue, scissors, water colors, stickers, origami paper
