Howdy folks. Just catching up.

Fen, your concerns are real because they bother you. I think this generation is seeing things earlier than ours because our generation waited longer to have kids. So children that are in their 20s & 30s have parents that are in their 50s and 60s.

And yes, you'll be called up on to be there and do things for them. That's what we do. My parents are no longer alive but I do the same for my older brothers when needed. That's what family does... or should do.

Eureka just finished (watching on Hulu) and Orc got a Bundles of Clones that almost qualifies as being worthy of an early night.

LOL

edit: For those interested in my magicJack experience. The port process took less than 1 week. It works great. We bought some cool Vtech phones and I have an $8.00 credit on my Frontier bill. I am running the magicJack on an old Dell notebook. When we don't have a dial tone it is usually because the Dell has updated and restarted. I am very pleased.

Interesting People's Court.
Women and new husband, (but they lived together 12 years) bought a house. The heat wasn't working, so they had a friend look at it.

They claim he cut wires and broke the furnace, resulting in no heat all winter. He did it because he wanted the wife and was mad she married.

For proof, they brought the inspection they had when they bought the house.
Inspector said, poorly maintained. Need to have an expert inspect it before turning it on. General life expectancy of that model furnace is 15 years. This unit is 14 years old and not maintained.

That is what they brought as proof that the unit was fine until the jealous guy ruined it!

They lost. They wanted $5,000 from the guy!

After they lost the women stormed out of the court, cursed at the guy who interviews people and called the judge an ass!

WE LURV YOU TOO! Dork!!!

Hello. Neighbor wants me to download a trip tik for a trip she, her sister and mother are taking. She doesn't have a clue. Example:

"I'll drop them off in front of Times Square and go park. It's Saturday, so there should be free parking nearby."

The rest of the trip (and I'll bet that part, too) includes (these are all drive-bys, not stopping):

Times Square
Ground Zero
Statue of Liberty
Atlantic City (spend the day at the beach)
Annapolis (to see ships?)
White House
Washington Monument
(I'm not sure what else in D.C.)
Virginia Beach

Now, I mentioned the Lincoln Tunnel going under the Hudson River and she almost had an attack. So this was so much fun, I told her about the Chesapeake Bay Bridge/Tunnel if they're going from D.C. to Virginia Beach. I thought she was going to hyperventilate. I don't know whether this trip can get mapped or not. Also told her if they want to see ships (are there ships at Annapolis?), that Norfolk Naval Base is right beside Virginia Beach and I'm betting there's ships there.

Well, another day has passed and I didn't use algebra once.

I wouldn't go with them for anything, but I'd love to have a microphone in the car and listen in. I don't think she's driven in any city bigger than Cincinnati and that's what she's assuming it's like.

I'll defer to d'name, no1, and Skek to disabuse her of those notions about NYC; J'phus is prolly well-suited to discuss Annapolis (I've never bothered visiting); DC and points south are up for debate; Norfolk/VA beach will be a zoo during summer.

When do they plan to travel? All by car?

They're nuts, IMHO.

Had to edit my reply to "wouldn't" go with them. They leave June 1st by car.

We spent a half hour the other night determining whether they could see the statue better from the Battery or Liberty park in NJ. Still not sure.

google maps seems to show liberty park is closer, but i have no personal experience with actually seeing lady liberty.

She is driving in Manhattan? Good luck!
Although I drove in the city...well on a sunday...all the time and I wouldn't drive in New Orleans.
Every citys crazy driving is different.
Mostly you just pretend you are the only car. It helps if you have an older car.

We've parked free near the Trade Center, but not on a Sat.
Haven't been there in at least a year. There was a construction wall around it, but it might be down now that parts are open. The big tower is now the tallest building in the city. Didn't even exist last time I was there. Sister in law lives walking distance from there, but we haven't visited her in a year or two.

Free parking....couldn't find any midtown when we went in two years ago. The parking meters were off line, but when I call 311 or 411 (non emergency city #) they told me they knew the parking meters were broken, but you still needed the ticket that you couldn't get!
I have seen the city come in with a dozen tow trucks and take away an entire block of cars, so thinking they can't tow you is foolish!

Also, I'm not sure who exactly wrote the parking signs...but they are as ambiguous as they can get. Can be interpreted any number of ways.

There might be free parking on a sat. I'm more familiar with sunday.

I've always taken the Staten Island Ferry to see the statue of liberty.

I haven't told her the PA turnpike is a toll road. Are the tunnels (Holland and Lincoln) tolls? What about the New Jersey Turnpike?
