Great idea to donate to kids in need! Thanks!
I purchase these every year for my grandkids (and even my teens) and they love them! They are something you feel good replacing each year!
something similar at Toys R Usfor $8 Compare to these being $2.50 each!
As far as I can tell, they haven't recently sold an Art 101 set as a repeat in the last year or 2. The last time was November 13, http://kids.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4716361 and here are my updated comments: Typical comments included difficulty getting the marker to wash out, that this is best for little kids, that the shipping delays weren't good last time, and donating these to toy drives is a good idea. Examples of other woots: December 16, 2010 for the 225 piece set http://kids.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?PostID=4279509 or this woot June 30, 2010-214 piece: http://kids.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?PostID=4279509 Feburary 17, 2011--160 piece: http://kids.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4350080 April 28, 2011-93 piece: http://kids.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4458483 September 8, 2011--250 (260?) piece: http://kids.woot.com/forums/viewpost.aspx?PostID=4620685 October 16, 2011: 107 piece http://kids.woot.com/Forums/ViewPost.aspx?PostID=4677689 The company that makes these is D M Creations, with contact listed in Hong Kong (not necessarily manufacturing site): http://www.hktdc.com/manufacturers-suppliers/D-M-Creations-Int-l-Ltd/en/1X00AHWP/ I tried summarizing everyone's questions and comments (including my own post, where I pointed to the international office in Hong Kong) about the company and origin: "Founded in 1997,...Art 101 products are sold in department stores, arts and craft specialty stores, wholesale clubs, online stores, and catalog companies. Our home office, show room, and warehouse are all located in Dallas, Texas. Our international office is located in Hong Kong." http://art101usa.com/Pages/?p=38b3fcc8-3e61-4dc1-bc48-36b83825661a (in a previous woot, 722lad figured out that although Hong Kong was the Far East office, it was made in Vietnam). When reviewing the previous woots, the key theme to me is that "any self-respecting art" student/artist would look down on this, including the low price means not top quality (including broken pieces). However, for a kid/donating as a toy, this certainly can work to introduce them to art.

THIS! For youngsters (5-9 yrs) these are perfect! I hope they arrive a couple days before the "big day" so I have time to wrap them and give them away!! >_< excited!
Normally this would be a good deal; but if you live anywhere near a Michael's, today (Friday) one of their Daily Deals is essentially the same thing for $2.99 with no shipping. Just a thought.
At the Michael's near me they currently have a 100 piece set (Creatology) for $2.99 and a 130 piece set for $6.50. The major arts and craft stores usually put these on sale this time of year. I bought a 130 piece set for my niece a couple months ago and saw piles of different size sets in prep for the holidays. Personally, I like the larger sets. They usually have more color variety. However, what's nice about these smaller sets is that they're good for traveling (e.g., they're self contained and could easily fit in a backpack for a trip by plane or bus, etc.).

aghh! I just bought 2 (or 4). My 7 yr old daughter has been telling me she wanted something like this, and the others will go in the birthday gift stash. edit to add: Here's the information from Michael's - "while supplies last" Michael's Daily Deal for 12/9/11 Item Description
Thanks for the heads up. And if I can't score one at Michaels, I'll buy this. Win-win.
My Michaels says it's been 2.99 all week and today it's 2.50, if they have them, I might go there... although I've been avoiding them since they made their employees work Thanksgiving (yes, a little one-family protest, lol)
$7.97 at Toys R Us
*is reminiscing...* When I was little, I recall these being much more expensive than what it is now! Great giant stocking stuffer.
Well Granny just bought 2(4) for my preschool grandkids. They should have fun decorating the cardboard playhouse I've already purchased and won't have to share. Woot had graciously sent me a $10 coupon code yesterday. I think they were telling me I sign in too much. LOL So with my coupon code I got them for $4.98 which was less than cost of shipping. I'm happy and I'm sure the grandkids will be too.
Loved these type of sets as a kid, but buying them for anyone above the age of 8 or 10 who likes art will probably make them resent you a little. The quality is not good for anyone serious about drawing, but it's good for playing around. If you're looking for something nice for older kids who enjoy drawing for about $10, a small set of prismacolor markers or colored pencils and a sketchpad will be much better received.
i knew that ten dollar coupon wouldn't last out the week.
Is anyone else having trouble buying more than one set?
Speedie316 wrote:Is anyone else having trouble buying more than one set?
Yep I can't select 2 or 3 either. Well got it to work for 3 on my DROID X wouldn't work on rooted Nook Color or on my PC?
Error Alert! Woot's product description states that there are 24 broad markers and 12 watercolor cakes. However, the packaging and the contents clearly indicates that there are only 12 broad markers and 24 watercolor cakes. Just a fyi for everyone as I was interested in getting more broad markers instead of more watercolor cakes. Without the extra markers, this set has no advantage over the set on sale over at Michaels, imho. Also, Woot list a pair of scissors in the package, but I cannot find it listed in the product contents list which is the second page of the product photos nor can I find it looking at the contents on the first photo page. Hope all this info is helpful. Happy shopping and as many others have mentioned before, these will be great for kids and for donating to kids.
In for 3. 6 sets for $20 is a good buy, and as soon as they get in, I'm dropping them off to a local children's charity. It's worth thinking about! Every kid loves to draw and paint.
Looks to me like 86 things my daughter can draw on the wall with!
In for three. Off to Afghanistan for Operation Outreach.
In for three sets and will pick up some pads of paper at the local "closeout" store. Hope they get here in time to drop then at fire station toy drive.
I'm in for three! Gotta love inexpensive stocking stuffers for my kids as well as the nieces and nephews

HAHA! I guess I never thought of that.... hopefully they will be selling a 2 pack of mr clean magic erasers tomorrow?
Dang, missed it....that sold out quick.
Smeltz should send you cookies. I was just getting ready to put a voodoo pox on him/her for buying the last one but alas, Smeltz has been saved. Thanks for the Michael's info!! Is there a limit there I wonder.....
kelliedn wrote:Dang, missed it....that sold out quick.
I was just about to type the same thing, but since I was getting my voodoo doll out for Smeltz, ya' beat me to it!

I protested too, so your movement has spread
It isn't even 5 am and they are already gone! Maybe this should have been a woot-off item rather than the item of the day'
I have to agree! Was just thinking the exact same thing and I don't even want one. But when you are sold out before most people are even up, that's a bit ridiculous!
Aw drat, I'm too late! This would have been perfect for the nephew and nieces, and not TOO messy for their Mom and Dad. Ah well, I'll check Michael's tonight when I'm off work... and then I'll check kids.woot tomorrow!
Heads up to bargin buyers! There is a 100pc. Beginners art set just like this one on sale at micheal crafts store for $2.50 each today (Friday)
ALREADY sold out =( These would have been perfect!!!
When I see this, I see a huge mess of writing utensils all over my house... many of them broken, and most of them lost.
I'm glad I stayed up last night to buy these!
I saw these for $9.99 yesterday at the big box retailer that we all love to hate.
Michaels had these for $2.99 on Friday and I had a 20% off coupon.
