The will said we’d get the entire fortune if we spent the night in Aunt Lucy’s house… so well played, Aunt Lucy.
When the lawyer read the will, I said “Great!” Because Aunt Lucy and I never saw eye-to-eye on the existence of ghosts, you see, and she always swore she’d take her revenge on me from beyond the grave. Of course, being a man of science, I just poo-poo’d her threats. But looking at this Melissa & Doug Lady Anna Wooden Dollhouse she assembled from a kit, well, I guess I can now see my Aunt Lucy was a bit more clever than I gave her credit for.
I assumed, when the lawyer showed me the photos of the pretty oval windows and the elegant widow’s walk, that Aunt Lucy was just trying to scare me off with images from traditional scary stories. You know, in those movies the oval window is always where the ghost appears, right? However when I saw this lovely dollhouse in person, I knew right away I’d misunderstood. It’s hard to think that anyone could be scared of those five beautiful, real wood construction rooms or the lovely front tower. And that’s not even counting the rooms in the attic, or the first and second floor porches! Yes, this would be a perfect house in which anyone could live a happy, ghost-free life… if only it wasn’t at a 1:12 scale, and designed for dolls.
So good job, Aunt Lucy. I still don’t agree with you on ghosts, but maybe you’ve proven to me that being smug doesn’t always win the day. Maybe you’ve proven that sometimes, family is more important than being right. Or maybe I’m gonna SMASH INTO THIS DOLLHOUSE AND CRAM MYSELF INSIDE! THAT’S RIGHT, AUNT LUCY! OOF! UGH! I’LL GET THAT FORTUNE YET, YOU SUPERSTITIOUS OLD BIDDY!
